How to Overcome the Mind Slump When Business Is Slow - MM 267
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
The slow season isn't what's hurting your business. The mind slump is.
Last week I coached several entrepreneurs — at completely different stages of growth — dealing with the exact same thing. Business was quiet. And instead of taking action, they were sitting in their heads, doing nothing, believing every story their brain was throwing at them.
In this Maggie's Moment, I'm sharing the three-step approach I coached them through — so you can grow your business even when things feel slow.
In This Episode
- Why the stories your brain tells you during slow periods are keeping you stuck — even when they feel true
- Where 90% of your time should go when you're not delivering services
- How to build a plan in advance
This One Is For You If...
- Business is slower than you'd like right now
- You find yourself doing nothing during quiet periods
- You want a simple framework to stay in action even when motivation is low
And if you want my help with building a strategic marketing and sales plan that will work even in slower seasons, book a complimentary consultation here.
Last week, I coached three or four entrepreneurs in a single week on the exact same thing. Different businesses, different stages of growth. Some were just starting out, some already at multiple six figures, and every single one of them was dealing with the same invisible problem: their mindslap-- the mindslap that hits when business is slow. Here is what it looks like. Business is quiet. The calendar isn't as full as you would like, and instead of taking action, the business owner sits in their office or in their shop or their home and does nothing for hours, sometimes for days. Not because they don't care, but because their brain is running a very convincing story. It's a slow season. People are being careful with their budgets. Nobody's buying right now. It's just a hard year. And whether those things are partly true or not, sitting in that story and feeling sorry for yourself will not bring a single new client through your door. So here is exactly what I coach my clients to do. The first step is awareness. When you notice yourself sinking into that slump, stop and ask, "Is this really true?" And even if the answer is yes, follow up with, "What can I do about it?" Because yes, maybe it's summer, maybe the economy is slower. And at the same time, not every potential client is on vacation. Not everyone is holding back their budget. There are people out there right now who need exactly what you offer. They're just not going to find you unless you find them first. The second step is this. When business is slow and you are not delivering services, 90% of that free time should be going to marketing and sales. Not admin, not reorganizing your files, not tweaking your website for the fourth time the same month. Marketing and sales. Those are the only two activities that will directly change your situation. And the third and the most important step is to have a plan ready before the slow time hits. Know exactly what actions you're going to take, networking events you'll attend, content you'll create, people you'll reach out to, DMs you'll send, and time block those activities on your calendar in advance. Because here is why this matters. When the slump hits, your brain is going to wanna spiral, and the only thing that cuts through the spiral is having something concrete to do. A plan you already made when you were thinking clearly that you can just simply show up and execute. Notice the slump, step out of it, work the plan. Business isn't always fast, but it doesn't have to be stagnant either. The difference between the business owners who grow through the slow periods and the ones who don't isn't luck or timing. It's this: one group manages their mind and works their plan, the other waits for the things to change on their own. You know which one to be If this resonated, save it and follow this podcast. Share it with a fellow business owner who needs to hear it right now. And if you wanna talk about building a marketing and sales plan that works even in slower seasons, I would love to chat.
